By my side

From each other, over the years, we gather strength, through laughter and tears.
"I have two sisters—as far back as I can remember, the three of us have always been very connected. Even if they are far away, I feel like they're always right here, by my side. It's the little, fun, silly moments—thousands of them—that fill me up when I'm with my female friends, be they sisters, girlfriends, cousins... Shared experiences and laughter form a lifelong reservoir of trust that allows us to be vulnerable around each other. And out of vulnerability comes strength. I know I can count on my sisters and girlfriends whenever I need support... or a good dose of humor." –Susan Lordi
A gift to celebrate supportive friendships among women—best friends, sisters, co-workers, neighbors.

Our Story
Willow Tree sculptural art forms beautifully express love, closeness, healing, courage, hope… all the emotions of a life well lived. Artist Susan Lordi hand carves the original of each figure from her studio in Kansas City Missouri. Pieces are cast from her original carvings, and individually painted by hand. Expression is revealed through gestures only… a tilt of the head, placement of the hands, a turn of the body. The simplicity of form and absence of facial features signify Willow Tree. It is Susan’s hope that these pieces be meaningful to both giver and receiver.

I bought one of these for myself and one for my sister. They mean so much to us. There have always been three of us girls and now one of us is an angel. I am the oldest of three sisters. I will be turning 32 this year and my middle sister Elizabeth will be turning 30. Our baby sister will never get to see her 29th birthday. Joy was admitted to the ICU on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 and tested positive for flu and pneumonia. She wasn't able to breathe well on her own and was put on the ventilator. On Thursday, March 17 she was diagnosed with necrosing pneumonia; she went into septic shock and into multi-organ failure. On Saturday, March 19 Joy stopped responding neurologically. On Tuesday, March 22 we made the decision to let her go peacefully. She was preceded in death by our dad who passed away suddenly at 51 just 5 weeks before. Joy was a stay-at-home mom with two small children (4 and 6 years old) and was an avid artist. This figurine helps to remind us that we are not alone and that we have a guardian angel watching over us.

I walked into Hallmark today and was so excited to see your new piece "By My Side" of three girls. I have three daughters, Ashley, Allison and Aryn and have collected figurines of 3 girls for 23 years. I immediately sent my daughters each a picture and said "Happy Mothers Day to Me!" I love the gold filigree base, the blue color at the bottom of each girl and especially how big they are! Thanks for designing them and please, please, please make more figurines with 3 girls! I cannot wait to take a picture and put it on Facebook on Mother's Day!

Yesterday i walked into a store that stocks the Willow Tree figurines, and my eyes were drawn directly to the " By My Side " display straight away. I knew immediately I had to have it, even before reading the caption. I have purchased many Willow Tree figurines over the years for gifts for family and friends and especially my daughter. I can always relate to the message or name of the piece, they are so heartfelt and meaningful, and are appropriate gifts for many of life's special occasions. This new piece speaks volumes to me. I purchased three when the shop assistant chased up other stores to source them for me. I actually have two sisters, and as soon as I saw it I had to have one for each of us. We have had some trials through our lives and have gotten through them by standing together side by side, holding each other strong, with much laughter and tears. We are grown women now with families of our own, but remain as close as ever and are there for each other no matter what. Our biggest challenge so far is about to start again, as the youngest of us at 42 years is about to start chemo for the 3rd time in 2 years for breast cancer. The outlook is not positive in the long run but she is the most amazing and inspirational person. She has such a great attitude and drive, and her strength and courage in the face of adversity helps us stay strong to support her through the bad days. So thank you for creating this piece, it is us in so many ways even down to the pose. Cheers Kym

I have two friends (really more) who are like sisters. These are two who I can call at any time day or night when I need them. When my son was killed in a car accident and we learned of his death at 2:00a.m. I did wait until 6:00a.m. to call them, but they were at my home almost as soon as I could hang up the phone. They never left me through the entire ordeal nor through the terrible days that followed. We have been able to laugh about many things that all our children have done over the years. In other words we have history with each other. We are the same as family even though we are not family in the legal sense of the word. This is the perfect Willow Tree piece. I only wish that I could afford to give each of them one. Who knows maybe I will be able to some day. Thank you Willow Tree.

This beautiful piece was given to me by my sister, signifying a special bond between us three sisters. We have become bonded, after sharing the loss recently of my mother to Alzheimer's Disease. It touched my heart, more deeply than I can say. I had never seen a Willow Tree piece of art before, and instantly fell in love with it. I will cherish it always. The figurines convey a special emotion which is meaningful to each person who is lucky enough to own a piece of the collection. The craftsmanship is absolutely beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes every time I look at it, and it will be lovingly placed in my home in a special area for all to see. Thank you my dear sister, and thank you Susan Lordi for sharing your talent.
