Every day, building on our love

“This sculpture represents a couple who’s navigating life together – the joys, the challenges, and the daily decisions that come with being a family. I hope it speaks to an appreciation for the little things that make life interesting... and how love can renew itself over and over again. It’s the trust and support of each other through the day in, day out that strengthens love – and keeps us in it for the long haul.

“I also designed this piece to work with the children in The Roses in my Garden collection. I hope this helps you create a family grouping that reflects the personality of your own.”

My beloved husband is slowly receding into FTD dementia after a brilliant life of professional scientific accomplishments and a hobby of building beautiful furniture. I'm learning to do the thinking and doing for both of us. This stage could last anywhere from two to seven years, they tell me. He's here today, at home with me, enjoying a different kind of life. This figurine captures the sentiment of our life today.

    You and Me

You And Me is probably my favorite piece. I am from Minnesota. I have been collecting figures for a while, and this one has the most meaning to me. My fiancé and I have been through numerous ups and downs throughout our relationship; not specifically with our relationship, but with family matters, jobs, and health. Our mantra is "you and me; me and you" - we say it all the time, and it means that whatever we face, we can get through together. And we truly have. I purchased this figure for my fiancé for our most recent anniversary, and we both were so emotional when he opened it that we both started crying, because we both instantly knew the meaning behind it. We are getting married in a couple weeks, and we also picked out one of the Willow Tree cake topper to use, because of how much meaning the You And Me piece has in our lives. As we begin this next chapter in our lives, I know we will be adding Willow Tree pieces in the years to come. They hold such huge meaning in our lives and in our hearts.

This was my first Willow Tree figure. When my Husband had a car accident a few years back, he ended up being badly hurt and now struggles to stand. It's a reminder that we are staying strong and there are more ways to hold each other than just standing side by side.

Currently my husband is serving in Afghanistan. Our anniversary is next month and so he decided to surprise me by getting this beautiful figurine for me. I had received it in the mail, but my husband asked me to hold off on opening it. Finally, today we were able to Skype and he asked me to open it. Being thousands of miles away from each other, this figurine speaks to my heart. "Every day, building on our love," and that is what we do. We have been so far apart from each other for 7 months now and we are about to have our one year anniversary. I love my husband more every day. And now I know I have something to remind me of our love and strength through such a tough time. Thank you for making such beautiful figurines. I now have two to show off.

When I got married I was introduced to this incredible collection. My wife and I received one of your figurines for our wedding. The figurine sits on a shelf next to our bed and my wife literally tells me how much she loves it every day. I bought this figurine for my wife for her birthday! She loves it so very much. We will definitely be buying more of these figurines to complete our collection. Thank you so much for your talent and passion.

I had quadruple bypass surgery quite unexpectedly 5 weeks ago. My wife has been by my side day and night taking care of me in every way possible. She is a true angel sent from God as far as I'm concerned. Yesterday, I had my first opportunity to drive since my surgery and wanted to get something special for her for all she has done. As you know, the You and Me piece is a man sitting with a woman leaning over him with her hand over his heart and his hand on hers. It brought tears to her eyes when I gave it to her. I know it will mean the world to her forever.

This was a fabulous gift from my husband! This special figure was given to me on Mother's Day 2013. I have such a love for Willow Tree. I literally have every angel ever made. I have almost every figure, even the retired ones, and I am starting on and now have almost all the ornaments. Thank you Susan for creating a such a wonderful line of what some call product, and what I call memories.

"You and Me. Every day, building on our love."

Submitted by Lynn in Maine, April 2013

I've always loved Willow Tree Figurines. Even as a child I dreamed of collecting them to commemorate my life but until yesterday, I'd never had an occasion meaningful enough to buy one. Two and a half years ago, I was in a emotionally, mentally and physically abusive relationship. I never knew what it was to be happy, to be taken care of, to feel safe or even what it was to be loved until my current boyfriend came into my life, little more than a year ago. He knows about my past, he knows about my ex and throughout the past year together he's been so understanding, patient, respectful and supportive about it all. Yesterday, we were spending the day together and it was then that I found the You and Me Willow Tree Figurine. I felt like crying when I stumbled across it because I realized I was finally ready to start my Willow Tree collection, to buy my first Willow Tree Figurine to commemorate the love that we have. I love Josh, with all of my heart. It's been two and a half years and as the saying goes, "There's no greater happiness in life than to love and to be loved" "You and Me. Every day, building on our love."

This is my seventh Wiilow Tree piece. All my pieces I have either bought or have been given at key moments in my life over the past 8 years. Each time I look at them they transport me back to a specific time and place. Not all the pieces represent happy times; however, they all play an important part of where I am today and the love I have shared with friends and family. My latest addition You and Me is to celebrate my wedding last week. This is a second marriage for the two of us and this piece is very appropriate. The loving stance the couple share, that loving hug are us to a tee. Thank you so much for creating such beautiful pieces.

This piece has a very special meaning to me. I gave it to someone who holds a very special and significant place in my life and in my heart. He is more than a lover, a true friend forever! The sentiment of this piece, "each day, building on our love" has a lot in it for us. By every passing day we build on our love; our relation of friendship as well as our relation with the outer world by facing all problems and challenges together. We both are far from our families and going through hard times in life, surrounded by uncertainty and fear of unknown but our companionship is our strength in all bad times! The joys and laughter we share are priceless! Often when he is working on his laptop and asks me to have a look at something interesting at his screen, I lean on to him in a similar way, wrapping my arms around him. That's why when I saw this piece I could immediately relate to it. It is a piece for a couple not only facing life together but constructing it together! That was the best gift I could have ever given to him to thank him for the unconditional support he fills in my life daily and to express the unspoken trust I have in him. This piece expresses exactly the way I feel for his being around and our companionship, with a promise at my part that I will always be on his back! I was a bit skeptical about it that--whether he will like it or not and whether he will understand the unsaid message in this piece, but the emotions in his eyes said it all. That's how much this piece has touched him. He wrapped his arms around me and those sentiments were precious! This piece TRULY conveyed the message I wanted it to, even without words.

My husband bought this sculpture for me for Christmas this year. He is a paraplegic and in a wheelchair. We have been married for almost two years. The You and Me sculpture literally duplicates our engagement photo, as well as one of our wedding photos. When I saw this one recently, I pointed out to him how much it reminded me of the two of us, as well as other couples such as ourselves. I also received another one, an angel - Thinking of You - the young girl holding a seashell to her ear, which was from my daughters. They know how much I enjoy the beach and the ocean. Thank you for your creations! Each one I receive has such a special meaning and serves as a reminder of what others value in me.

I have loved the Willow tree figures for some time, have a number of pieces and have given them as presents to many friends. Our 20th wedding anniversary was yesterday , 7th Nov 2012, and we were given this piece by our three wonderful children to mark this very special occasion. Even after 20 years we are still "building on our love" and know that we will continue to do so for the rest of our lives. It meant such a lot to us both and it takes pride of place beside another Willow Tree piece "Angel of Mine," which my husband bought for me when our baby daughter died nine years ago. They are timeless pieces which we treasure for the memories that they mark.

My husband of 22 years has always been the rock in our family, raising three boys who adore him, and now helping our oldest son with our three granddaughters who think their K-pa hung the moon. My husband was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 bladder cancer that has already metastasized to the lung and brain. His biggest concern is that he will die one day when he is all alone. This figure reminds me of the many recent times he has had to sit down to catch his breath, or just to conserve his energy. I put my arms around him, touching and holding him, making sure that he knows that I am always right there with him, keeping him safe. I want him to know the vows I took when we got married were never taken lightly, and I will be there with him in sickness and health, until death steals him from our lives. I feel that this figure will remind him of my promise to be with him every step of his final journey, never letting him forget how much I love hime, and how grateful I am to still have him, no matter what time we have left. "You and me" will go into the display case, right next to the Anniversary, Grandmother, Grandfather, Mother and Son, Father and Son, and my favorite, the one he gave me for an earlier anniversary, Together. This is only a small list of the many Willow Tree figures I have arranged in my display case. Each of the Willow Tree figures is extremely special to me. After my husband's death, which is inevitable at this time, I will be able to feel his presence every time I look at our lives told through our Willow Tree figures. So I have now started giving them to my children and grandchildren for special occasions, so they may look upon their figures and remember the part of their life that it represents, hopefully with the pride and awe I feel every time I look at mine.

My husband and I are professional woodworkers and have been together for 20 years now. I got my first piece "Together" on my wedding day, which also happened to be our 13 year anniversary at that time. I thought the description of the piece was beautiful. Then one year later my father-in-law bought us "Anniversary". Since then we search every store that sells Willow Tree for your husband and wife pieces. We have all four pieces and look forward to more to come. They hold a special place in our hearts.

My husband of 30 years passed away in 2010 after a long hard battled with cancer, that we fought together since 2004. I cried when I saw this piece in a recent catalog and I knew I had to have it. I cried again in the store when I purchased it. To me it truly looks like us. It now sits beside my chair and I smile each time I look at it. What a touching reminder of the love we shared! Thank you Willow Tree for this blessed piece.

My husband has been fighting stage 4 metastatic melanoma cancer for four years. It was first removed from his back and all his lymph nodes on the right side. Later it ate a hole in his femur; they put a bar in the bone so it would not break in half. They also removed all of the left lymph nodes. Now it is in the lungs, liver, hip. A month ago we found that there is one hitting against his spinal nerve. We pray it will not cut the nerve for it could paralyze him. There is no use trying to take it out, for the nerve sack itself has the cancer. We just got out of the hospital Monday. The cancer has reached the brain. The gift shop at the hospital had this figure and I just had to have it. I do not buy things for myself for paying off so many medical bills. But this truly touched me. Many times I have held him just like this saying "It will be all right. We will fight this together." We have been so blessed. Rick is still alive. Know that your figurines have touched this person so much. God Bless ... Joyce

My brother David and I shared a special bond. After David passed in Feb 2012 I searched the internet for brother & sister figurines. My search kept bringing me back to Willow Tree. Although I own five Willow Tree figurines, the brother/sister just didn't feel right. I clicked under the new products and there it was. The figurine YOU and ME was absolutely perfect. I have two photos of David and me in the same position. I will miss my brother every day for the rest of my life but this figurine gives me a sense of peace.

This figure reminds me of a sermon on marriage and submission. Our pastor's wife described biblical submission as not bowing down to your husband but covering his back while he moves the family forward. The "wife" figure in "You and Me" reminds me of that. My Lisa is always watching my back for attacks from the enemy. Her hand on his heart reminds me that my Lisa is always guarding my heart. Great work as always on this one.
