Abundant love surrounds you

“I wanted to make a figure with her face in the flowers, taking them in with her senses — smelling them, feeling the petals against her face; feeling safe in that surround. So this piece could say to someone that they are loved by those around them… if a person is experiencing difficulty, it could be a reminder of family and friends who support and are there for them. Or it could be a way to say to one special person that all of your love is surrounding them (more of a romantic interpretation)… or just a little gift for someone who loves to garden… I like that people read this piece differently. The choice of red poppies was influenced by trips to France, seeing fields of poppies. The red poppy symbolizes remembrance, so this piece could be a tribute to those who served our country.”

    Surrounded by love

Submitted by Elisa Loveland in Ravenna Ohio, December 2016

My mum passed away June 7th 2016. She loved to be in her garden.... And loved her flowers. So when I was looking for something that would remind me of her and sit next to her picture and the fresh flowers I have been putting out since I got home from England after her funeral service.... I thought this piece would be perfect, but with the hussle and bussel of the holidays I forgot to get it for myself... I had mentioned to my husband about wanting it and forgot that I had told him. So when it was time to open our Christmas gifts... (Christmas eve) also our anniversary, this piece was one of my gifts.... Needless to say that I hugged it and cried.... I am very sure that I will be an owner of more pieces from your collection... Thank you Elisa .

I bought this piece by accident, I walked into the shop for inspiration for my fairy garden and saw this. The flowers reminded me of poppies but there was no description to say what they were. I bought this piece to stand by my last little boy's ashes, he was called poppy as was size of a poppy seed when I found I was pregnant. He was diagnosed with Down's and I chose not to bring him into our world to suffer. He shall be kept company by your figurine until he rests with me.

I received my "surrounded by love" piece from my sister on the occasion of my husband's death two years ago. This piece symbolized so much of what I was going through. To me it seemed she was crying in the poppies just like I wanted to. Poppies for me are a symbol of Greece. The first time I went to Greece with my husband was at Easter time and the poppies were everywhere and so beautiful. And my husband was from Greece. So this piece represents remembering the joy of my life with my husband and my desolation at his death.

My daughter gave me 'surrounded by love' for Mothers Day 2015. I thought the piece was sweet. The year before she had given me an orchid. The orchid flowered and lasted around 8 months before the flowers fell one by one. The twig remained as it was. Suddenly about a month ago a new stem appeared and quickly buds formed. There were a few out for Mothers Day this year. I put the ornament under the stem and yesterday the ornament struck me of its significance, and I burst into floods of tears. Two years ago my daughter had a breast removed because of cancer. The year that followed was a tough one. Chemo and radiation took its toll on her. One year of relative normality followed, but then a couple weeks ago she noticed a lump in her neck. A visit to the doctors required more testing and scans. Mother's Day came while we were waiting for results and this little ornament came onto the scene. For some reason I did not see it as anything other than a girl with her head buried in a bunch of forget-me-not flowers painted red. Yesterday I went over to the ornament and picked it up trying to read what it said underneath. Her head buried in flowers suddenly seemed so sad and tragic. I picked up my cell phone and took a photo. Then a rainbow appeared out of the window behind the ornament while gentle rain came down. I photographed that too, and then the sun came out and shone upon her, and then a shadow of the ornament appeared in the glass. I will try to send you the photos. The ornament I will treasure forever. You are very clever to capture emotions.

    Surrounded By Love

Submitted by Jody Saunders in Utah, United States, May 2015

There would be no barbecue, no picnic, and no large family get-together. It was to be my 4th Mother's Day in a row separated from both my mother and my three children. They were all in Montana (or at University in Texas) while my husband and i were in Utah where i had been receiving extensive medical care. I was so discouraged thinking of the upcoming day. On the Friday preceding Mother's Day, I found a new and very large display of Willow Tree figurines in a local craft store. I smiled as i found a couple that my daughter had purchased for me for other life celebrations. At that moment i decided i would buy a figurine for myself, with the hopes it would help ease the pain of the empty Mother's Day weekend. I looked long and hard and finally settled on "Surrounded By Love" I liked the beautiful bouquet of mauve flowers and I loved the title of the piece. I put it in my cart and continued shopping. Just before checking out, I returned the figurine to the shelve. It just didn't seem right to buy myself a Mother's Day gift. Two days later, i spent Mother's Day anticipating the short periods of time I would spend on the phone with my mother and children. My young adult daughter, Ashleigh, called late in the afternoon and we enjoyed a nice conversation. At one point Ashleigh asked if I remembered a box that she had asked us to put away in her room a few months ago. I vaguely remembered her request, but had to look a few places before locating the box for her. After retrieving it, Ashleigh asked me to open the box. I then realized this box contained my Mother's Day gift. I opened the outer cardboard box to find a box from Willow tree inside. What a coincidence...I began telling Ashleigh how i almost purchased one of your figurines for myself just a couple days earlier. Then the miracle happened. Out of all the possible choices, my daughter had purchased the very same figurine that I picked out two days earlier. I indeed felt "Surrounded By Love".

I gave the piece, Surrounded by Love, to my mother for Christmas. She collects Willow Tree Angels and I wanted to give her a gift that had meaning behind it. This past year she and I have been through a lot. There have been many ups and downs but through it all she never stopped loving me. I was constantly surrounded by her love even when I thought I did not want or need it. What I realized is I would not be here if it were not for her love she gives to me. I thank God to have been blessed with such an amazing angel of love whom I get to call my mother.

In April 2014 I learned I was pregnant with my fourth child. When I checked my baby books I found that the baby was about the size of a poppy seed, so we began referring to the baby as Poppy. Only a week later, I miscarried. In the days that followed I started noticing wild poppies growing along the highway near our house. I would smile and remember our Poppy every time I saw them. I was looking for a Christmas ornament and the flowers in Surrounded by Love caught my eye. When I read that they were in fact poppies, I knew this was the one. We have an ornament on our tree next to our family ornament, and since I got a new Willow Tree figure of mother and baby with each of my sons, we're adding this one to my collection, for our little Poppy.

Submitted by Tobie Williams in Fort Worth, TX, March 2014

I recently received the "Surrounded by Love" as a gift from a dear friend following the stillbirth of our twin sons. It perfectly captures the deep sentiment of the experience, and the grace God provided, with a necessary simplicity to keep it from being an overwhelming reminder of our loss. I felt that though our boys were not allowed to remain here with us that the Lord did not leave us empty. Indeed, we were surrounded by His love through the many prayers, thoughtful words, deeds and care we received from our family, friends, neighbors, physicians, nurses and others who experienced this with us. This sculpture is now displayed in the deep windowsill above my tub next to the cross my sister gifted my husband and I with when we got married. This display is now a constant reminder to me of the amazing strength and peace God gave me in this time of deep loss, which encourages me in dealing with the small trials of every day. Your pieces are a beautiful balance of rich emotion and simple expression. Thank you for giving us space to share our story.

Susan, My only child, Michael, died in an auto accident 1/1/11. He was 23. On his first birthday after his death (March 10), I was beside myself, so I kept myself busy putting together a digital album of his life, beginning with a photograph of me at the baby shower very pregnant with him, and ending with the last photo taken of him five days before he got killed. I shared the album on a social media site and enjoyed reminiscing with my friends about the pictures of the first time he stood alone, his first fish, prom pictures, etc. Friends and loved ones came to see me, or called or sent me messages throughout the day. In the evening, I posted on that same social media site that the day had not been what I thought it might be and that I felt "surrounded by love." Not more than a moment later, my friend Heather arrived with a gift that she said she just "knew" Michael had inspired her to buy. She said, "I feel like it's really from him, not me." I sat down to open it and just then I had a flashback of my sweet Michael when he was just a little boy running into the house with a handful of flowers he'd picked for me, roots and all! I relished the memory!! I started to cry from the joy of it and told Heather about the memory I'd just had. She gasped and said, "Please open your gift. Now, I know it's from Michael!" When I opened it, of course I saw your beautiful sculpture of a lady (a mom, in my mind) enjoying a bouquet of flowers--and the title of the piece? Surrounded by Love. Another verification to me that Love is stronger than death, and knowing that has made all the difference for this grieving mother. I just wanted you to know. With my sincere thanks and gratitude, Marilyn (Michael's mom)

Just before she gave it to me, my sister asked me to choose a painting (she's an artist) from a selection of many many pieces. I was drawn to a picture of a girl in a white long dress clutching some flowers. She then gave me my Willow Tree ornament to unwrap, telling me mum inspired her to get it. I was stunned when I unwrapped to see it was almost identical to the painting I has just picked. I know it's my mother's way of telling us she is looking over us and is a present from her too. I will cherish both the painting and ornament forever x

I spent the best year of my life in Canada 2010-11, away from my home country Finland. I met lots of people that became dear to me but one of the most extraordinary and special friends was a girl who gave me this figure. I met her through difficulties and we got very close - she became like a sister to me. In the end of April she, I and our other friends went to take some pictures on a tulip field and there we shared lots of laughter while posing for the cameras. In June I wasn't supposed to leave the country yet but I got really sick and I had to go. I had time to throw a goodbye party though and this girl came and gave me a box. I opened it and took out the most thoughtful present I've ever got; this little statue, "Surrounded by Love." She told me how the flowers would always remind me of that sunny day on the field and how loved I am. Now I'm back in Finland and I miss Canada and her incredibly but every time I feel down I just need to take a look at the little flower girl. I remember that even when we are oceans apart, we love and care about each other and that fact will never disappear. Then I don't feel so sad anymore.

I received this very special figurine as a belated birthday present from my dear friend, Paige. I knew of her during my boyfriend's freshmen year of college, and finally became friends with her at the beginning of my freshmen year. And she has been such a wonderful friend in my life, I couldn't ask for a more caring and patient friend. When I tore the wrapping paper off my gift, I enjoyed the simplicity of the card board box and the "Willow Tree" logo. As I took the figurine out of the box, I was struck by its simplicity yet extraordinary beauty and deep meaning. She told me, "It's so you know you're always loved." That's when I knew for sure I had a friend who was going to stick by me through thick and thin. When she gave me the gift, she was visiting from her hometown. My boyfriend thought to take us to the beach, She had only been to the beach once in her life and had never seen Lake Michigan. Once we got there, she was so excited and couldn't believe the beauty of the dunes, the sun setting on the water, or how the sky and water blended to the point where one couldn't tell the difference. Now every time I look at my figurine, I think of how Paige made me feel so loved, and how we ended the sitting on the sand as the sun went down.

This year my husband of only 12 months was diagnosed with cancer, and due to time taken from work to care and support him my lovely work colleagues purchased a Willow Tree Angel for me as a gift. This was it... my opportunity to begin a collection of angels for myself, which would have more meaning than anything else I could think of. I have since been given the Angel of Miracles and Surrounded by Love, and the With Love Angel. In a time of turmoil, distress and the fear of the unknown these beautiful figurines seem to reign an air of peace and serenity in my home and I find myself smiling whenever I look at them. Thank you for creating these beautiful and meaningful figurines... they are bringing me more comfort than you will ever know.

I'm pregnant right now with our first baby - a little girl! We couldn't be more excited, and we've decided to name her Poppy. My husband is in the military and we loved the symbolism of Remembrance, but also, I grew up calling my dad Poppy, and we have a very special relationship. I am buying this figurine for our little girl - she will know she is always surrounded by our love!

My beautiful daughter Lauren has just turned 24. She's been a ray of sunshine in our lives - mine, my husband's, her two older brothers (all born within three years and three months). We're an EXTREMELY close family. She has a chronic illness and we know that every minute that we manage to all be together is a special blessing. Yellow roses are of special significance to her and indicative of the special mother/daughter bond beetween her and me. I found a figurine to show her how special she is and how deep into our hearts she is. Wendy

I received my first Willow Tree (Mother and Daughter) when my 21 year daughter passed away. I have been collecting ever since. Each one has a unique and wonderful memory. My all time favorite is Happiness, the little girl with her arms outstretched with the three blue birds. When my daughter was small and she wanted to catch a bird, her daddy told her to go out under the tree and hold your arms out and be real quiet. She did, and I have picture of her standing under a tree with her arms outstretched, being very quiet. I was shopping with my mother today and I saw a new Willow Tree figurine, Surrounded by Love. My daughter's favorite color was orange and we had all orange flowers for her funeral. This little angel holding the orange flowers reminded me of her and I just had to bring her home.

This figure was given to me by my husband during his first deployment. It is easily my favorite out of my collection. Every time I see it I am reminded that no matter how far away he may be, I am always surrounded by his love.
