Walk with me. And along the way, we'll share... everything

“A sister can save your life. A safety net. You never laugh harder than when you’re laughing with your sisters... or very close dear friends. You share the same history;  the inside jokes that no one else would understand in the same way. A sister knows your faults and somehow puts up with them, and loves you in spite of them.

“I have two sisters – one nearby and one farther away. When I’m with either one, or both, the walks we take and the talks we have are like one long ongoing conversation... we cover all subjects about anything and everything. By my side, my sisters are with me, in the present moment. This piece is about the rich and sustaining, comfortable constancy of lifelong friends.”

Submitted by Cindy Franks in Florence Alabama, September 2017

I don't live in the same state as my mother did. Through the years I have made many friends where I live. However there are a few of us who refer to each other as "sisters by another mother". Recently my mother passed away. My sisters by another mother gave me this figure. I will cherish it forever.

My sister and I have not always had the best of relationships, we are 13 years different in age(I'm the baby), raised in completely different households and I was a wild child while she was cool, calm and collected. At times we went weeks or months with out speaking. Fast forward 6 years, I've done considerable growing up and she is now one of my greatest friends even across the long distance between us. While visiting her over thanksgiving I had mentioned how I'd love to have a willow tree collection to mark my milestones, and today her Christmas gift to me arrived and it was the my sister, my friend piece and I cried. Words can't express the meaning that this holds for me. She is my sister but also my friend

Submitted by Rachel in Utah, December 2016

I have spent the past 12 weeks on bedrest with a very difficult pregnancy, and my friend and co-worker took it upon herself to assist my family in so many ways. She has driven me to many doctors appointments when my husband's work schedule was unaccommodating, helped with my other children, and generally been a comforting companion. We went from casual lunch buddies at work to basically sisters in these past few weeks. So, I felt that this figure would make a lovely "thank you" upon the birth of this baby, who should be coming in the next week or so. The women even vaguely resemble us, with her being the taller woman with the short dark hair, and me being the more petite woman with the long, fair hair. I am sure she will love it.

The Sisters piece means the most to me. 15 years ago I moved from southern West Virginia to nothern Indiana. My best friend and I only get to see each other twice a year. She had all brothers growing up and so did I. She moved into a house behind my mom and dad when we were 10 and we have been friends for the last 26 years. We both have all daughters. I believe that God blessed us with daughters because we always wanted to be sisters. She means the world to me and even though we aren't related she is and always will be my sister. I bought her the "Sisters" piece when she had surgery last month. I could not go and be with her during the surgery but I wanted her to know I'm always with her. No matter how many miles are between us!

Four years ago I became suddenly and seriously ill with a massive staph infection. My sister, who is 13 years younger and has a full family life herself stepped in and handled everything for me for almost nine months while I had multiple surgeries and complications in several hospitals and rehab facilities. When I saw the beautiful women in "My Sister, My Friend", my heart recognized our story. For me it brings to life the lasting gift of her love and caring. As just a small recognition of this I gave her that piece for Christmas last year - so hopefully it can remind her always of my gratitude and love.

"My Sister My Friend" This piece is important to me because it reminds me of my sister and all the trials we went through together when her husband of 38 years past away. We weren't close for many years and as you get older you realize that family is the most important thing in life. Tragedy can break the strongest family or it can bring families closer together. That's what happened to us. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid and between her and I we tried to make his last year on earth the best it could be. We became the "three musketeers". We did everything together. When he got to the point where he wasn't able to get around we stayed with him and just made him believe that he was going to be with us forever. She was so stressed trying to do everything for him with no sleep or eating on the fly. I admired her for her determination to make his last bit of life as important to him and her as it had been for all those years before the illness. She showed me what sacrifices a person will make to keep the family together. When he passed, she moved to be near me and eventually we decided to move in together. I know this is what her husband would have wanted, knowing she was being looked after and not alone. So, yes is not only my sister but she is my friend.

    My sister, my friend

Submitted by muffie in USA, October 2016

It had been a serious breech in what had been a 40 year friendship. I had gone to visit my best friend "D." in another state for a couple of weeks. It was clear from the onset of the visit, my friend was not herself and was having some emotional difficulties, which I, of course, wanted to help "fix." But my "Little Miss Fix-It" personality can sometimes be...well...NOT helpful. Suffice to say, the tension between us resulted in a horrible scene, tears, and my leaving for home early. We did settle our differences fairly soon after I returned home, but there remained this growing tension and sadness between us. All those words that had been said could not be taken back. It's scary how so many years of laughter and friendship can be erased with just a few minutes of anger, loss of self control, and failure to understand some else's pain. I was so good at "fixing" things: I forgot the main lesson of friendship was that one needs to be a SUPPORT. I couldn't MAKE "D" better; she had to do that for herself. The tension and anger were about my own frustrations that "D" was not willing to be "fixed" by me, and hers was frustration that I was being too controlling. I needed to let her know what she meant to me, without the tension of the words...or maybe someone else's words. A card wasn't enough. That's when I found "My Sister, My Friend." We had always joked we were twin sisters from other mothers, so I sent the figure to her. The day she received it, she woke me up, crying, (I had sent it special delivery) pouring out her heart about all the things that had been going with her over the past months but she had not been able to speak about. We spoke for about four hours that day. That night, I sent for another "My Sister, My Friend." It sits on the bookcase across from my bed, where I can see it to remember that all my friends are my sisters and my relationship with them should not be to "fix," but to LISTEN, and most of all, LOVE them like the sisters I never had.

I could feel her pain and God filled my heart with love especially for her. I have been the open vessel for God to work through and she obtained much healing. We have become best of friends. My birthday came and she gave me this beautiful piece. I cried with joy over this beautiful piece of art! New collection has been started with this beautiful God given friendship.

I fell in love with willow tree pieces when i first saw the "Guardian Angel" and I received my first piece as a birthday gift 3 years ago. but this time, i received this piece from a long way from my dear sister. i, too have 2 sisters and up till September 2015 one was far (in Australia) and one was close in Iran which i lived. i moved to Helsinki, Finland this September and i had the chance to see my sister from Australia in Italy in a 2-day trip, there, i told her about my passion for Willow tree. this Feb we lost our dear Grandmother and we both were miles away from home... only we could understand each other and the pain we had to deal with... and this week i received a letter from the post office to pick up a package. when i opened the box and i saw the willow tree box inside, i laughed and cried at the same time... such an emotional moment. there was this piece inside... i know what it means to have a sister's support no matter what... we truly SHARE EVERYTHING even though we have been apart for 10 years... thank you for letting us share our feelings with each other through this piece.

I give my sister a gift every year on October 8th. On October 8th, 1993 she unselfishly and lovingly saved my life and gave me one of her kidneys. I started years ago with purchasing Willow Tree Angels for her (after seeing the complete set of the nativity she purchased) and she has a corner shelf dedicated to just her Willow Angels from me. She just loves them! I always just purchased one from the local stores, but I recently found this website (I don't know why I didn't look before) and was beyond thrilled to find this sister angel. I'm praying this kidney will continue to function for many more years, so we may have to find a bigger corner shelf for more angels! I can't thank you enough!

First of all I want to thank you. I found your page just before Christmas and chose your figure of the 2 sisters to send to my sister. We don't have much history together. I was 40 when I learned that I had a sister and she is 13 yrs younger than me. We don't see each other much. She is in PA and I am in TX but she is in my heart. She loved her gift. She called me crying. Her birthday is in May and I have decided to build her a collection with her gift. I intend to send her "Close To Me". I know you have mother & daughter in mind on that one but when I saw it, I knew that was the one. Thank you again for making your beautiful work available for us to share with others.

Submitted by Brenda in Washington State and Belize, Central America, December 2015

I have never had a sister, until age 49 when I was blessed to go on a mission trip to an orphanage in Belize. There I met Momma Leonie, the mother who has raised over 800 of children in her orphanage. I have been blessed to be a small part of helping her from afar and sharing in her life. She is very much alone, though she has many people around her, as she carries so many burdens in life with so many children from such tragic circumstances being in her care, never mind the fact that she relies totally on donations to care for them in every way. I have been richly blessed to have her become my sister and my friend, as in all of the heartache that she goes through, she has taught me the love of Jesus and how He is there every day holding her hand and giving her strength to deal with all that comes her way. I now and forever have a sister, who is also a sister in Christ. Words cannot express how wonderful it is to have her in my life. This sculpture is the perfect picture of the two of us. Although we are sisters from different mothers, and have different colors of skin, that does not change the fact that we are forever sisters. I have purchased one set for me, and one for her. I love you sis! Brenda

Not only did I find my sister, but I have 3 nieces and they have 5 children and my brother in law is an angel in his own right. . I love being called "Aunt Yvonne". She is in Michigan and I live in Idaho but when we call one another it is as if she is right next door. We talk for hours and have to make ourselves stop talking. :) Her birthday is Dec 12th and I am so excited for her to receive this gift. Thank you for helping me express what my sister means to me. It is her 1st birthday since we found one another and this gift says everything that I want to say....You are "my" sister and you are also my friend. Happiest of Holidays to you and yours... Yvonne

It is my sister's birthday and upon reflection of the year I wanted to get my sister something extra special, something that showed my appreciation for all her support this past year and all the milestones we celebrated in 2014. My sister is a reliable, fierce, comforting spirit who provides solidarity like none other. She was the first person to reflect back to me the beauty of my son being born while reminding me of my own strength with just a few words and her presence. She also took on the ultimate divine feminine this year and married her well matched partner, Kellen, with such beauty, grace and gratitude. It was such a joy to be with her on this special day and share the looks that contain a thousands words and deep emotion. She has been the ultimate companion since she was born and I am forever grateful for the gift of sisterhood. This sweet carving provides the perfect sentiment and gesture to the sentiments I feel for my beloved sister. May we continue to be each others confidants, playmates, and nurturers. I love you forever Katelyn Joleen.

Although we are only depicted as 2, in our minds we will always be depicted as the four of us as we are all very close in age. My Mother delivering four daughters in 6 years! My sister told me she was diagnosed with cancer in May 2012. Over the many months of treatments and disappointments, my sister lost her battle on November 18, 2013. I spent much of my November in Georgia with her before and as she passed away. I was off work for 3 weeks. One of the partners of the company I work for was so touched by the pain I was going through losing my sister and best friend, that he and the corporate office ladies put their heads together to give me something special to help me. I have always loved the Willow Tree figurines but never owned one. When I opened the box I started crying. They couldn't have given me a better gift than "My Sister, My Friend." This piece sums up my whole relationship with my sister better than I could do for myself, for she was not only my sister but also my best friend. I shared everything with her. This figurine is proudly displayed by the engraved jewelry box my sister gave me at my 50th birthday, four months before she took her last breath here on this earth. Keep making these precious sculptures Susan; they give sentiment a way to express itself. Thank you!

On December 15th 2012 I lost my best friend. My sister passed away after a long and courageous battle of liver cancer. Needless to say I was so heartbroken and I didn't even realize it was Christmas. As I sat with my family watching them unwrapping their gifts that day, I could not even bring myself to be happy as hard as I tried. When everyone was done, my then 15 year old daughter brought me a gift she herself had purchased for me with the help of my husband. When I saw the box said Willow Tree it brought me some joy as I have a great collection and I love them. But yet when I opened the box and found it to be the My Sister My Friend piece I could not believe my eyes that my daughter cared so much as to get me this special piece in remembrance of her aunt's and my relationship.Unfortunately in the days of her passing and all the business I had been taking care of I had not had the opportunity to let myself grieve for my loss. When I saw this beautiful gift the flood of emotion was too hard to hold back and I let the tears flow and sat and sobbed for 15 minutes just hugging this piece. When i started to regain my composure I came to realize that my entire family was around me and that they too were crying. My poor daughter kept apologizing for upsetting me so. I had to explain it was not her fault but was truly a good thing that she had done! Last Sunday on the one year anniversary of my sister's death my daughter accompanied me to purchase Remembrance and I am very happy to say no tears were shed this time only happy memories that we shared. Of all the pieces in my collection this one, My Sister My Friend will always be the most cherished. Thank you for creating this precious gift for me! Kimberly

Last year, I almost lost my younger sister and best friend in a terrible car accident. God miraculously protected her, and I cannot express how grateful I am that she is alive today! Every time I think of how close I came to losing her, I get choked up.I don't know what I would do without her; who I would talk to about all those silly little things only sisters can share? We live in different states, and I miss her every day, but just knowing she is still here on this earth with me fills me with thankfulness. God alone knows the number of our days, and I have learned to never take a single one for granted. Next month will be the one-year anniversary of her car accident, and I want to get her something to celebrate the new chance at life she was given! This piece not only celebrates that, but also the new chance at friendship we have. I hold her more dearly now than ever.

Very recently i lost my beloved and treasured Aunty. The last 2 months she had fought so very hard to stay in this world, and every day from the day since she was diagnosed, my Mum - her sister would visit her twice a day. She would massage her hair - as my Mum is a hairdresser, and my Aunty so looked forward to this. In just over 2 years, there were only 10 days that she didn't do this - they were they ones when she was away on a trip - the other days were when she was just unwell. I am about to give this to my Mum tonight as a special reminder how precious the love and bond of a sister is. And the saying still applies even in her passing "walk with me. And along the way, we'll share everything..." I know my Aunty is watching us all, looking out for us all and in particular giving my Mum the strength to be strong for my 91 year old Nan (My Aunty's mum). These are so simple, yet the meaning is so powerful.. I truly love them.. and they mean so very much not only to the receiver but to the person who's gone into the giving of such a precious remembrance.

My sister (one of three) lives 1000 miles away. I talk to her via phone every Sunday and sometimes during the week. I might say, "just a quick question" and four hours later we hang up our phones. I don't know what I would do without my sister. She supports me when I am down, makes me laugh, cries with me and loves me unconditionally. We love the same things, have the same interests, think alike, and our common saying when we say something the other is thinking is "We must be related!" Then we laugh. I love my sister dearly and would be lost without her.

This lovely piece describes exactly how I feel about my very special sister Kathy. Yes we laugh so much together and we are soul mates. We can talk about anything and everything. I am so grateful to have her in my life. She was so brave last year and I wish her the very best this year. I guess we will buying this piece as it is definitely us.
